We totally missed January, but the Monthly Recap is back for February! Yaaay. There’s an immense amount of news this month because for some reason February is XBLA month. There’s roughly a million game announcements and DLC as well. I suggest hitting CTRL + F and searching for the copious news about your favorite game. Or games. Or just read all the news, because that’s a good idea.
Beyond the “things that happened”, there’s also several Friday Top Fives and Most Wanted’s this month as we continue to beef up our feature repertoire. Our chief feature, A Year In Review (2011) is definitely worth checking out for some insight into the fluctuations in XBLA cost versus review scores. Lastly, amongst the five podcasts is our Music Special which showcases some of the best XBLA soundtrack tunes since its inception.
Without further ado, welcome to February all over again! Read More

I’m joined by the regular crew of Perry, Todd and Andrew this week for a pretty packed show. We kick things off by talking about the very disappointing release of AMY. It’s a game that is getting pretty much universally panned, Perry and I talk about some of the reasons why. We also wonder if there’s any chance the game could be saved by post release patches much like Hydrophobia.
Other than that it’s up to Andrew to talk about what he’s been playing, as the rest of us haven’t played all that much. Thankfully his games lead us into an interesting discussion about XBLA multiplayer communities and whether bad games being released have any affect on them.
Perry grabs a few of the notable news stories from the last week for us to talk about, including a few Double Fine related snippets.
Please subscribe, comment, review the podcast on iTunes and tell your friends! We appreciate it! Check us out on twitter (@XBLAFans) where you can win codes for games, give us feedback or just ask a question.
Big thanks again to Chris Green for the awesome theme music, be sure to check out his site BlurredEdge and why not follow him on twitter too @BlurredEdge.
[podcast]https://xblafans.com/xblafancast/XBLAFancastEp45.mp3[/podcast]Choplifter HD is developed by inXile Entertainment and published by Konami. It was released on January 10, 2011 for 1200 MSP. A copy was provided for review purposes.
Choplifter HD is the revival of a franchise first seen in 1982 on the Apple II. The game sees the player take the flight stick of a helicopter pilot traversing foreign lands ravaged by war, saving refugees. Now, inXile Entertainment brings the series into the current generation as an XBLA title with hi-def graphics, achievements and the whole shebang. Each level sees you traverse across a two-dimensional plane to rescue the refugees while avoiding (or blowing away) generic terrorists. Some levels are just that straightforward, while others toss in additional obstacles, like necessitating refuel stops or throwing an injured refugee with a timer into the mix.

Choplifter HD will receive free DLC following its release on Xbox Live Arcade tomorrow, but what of its price? The cost of games is a topic at the tip of many tongues right now; just how much bang are gamers getting for their buck on Xbox Live Arcade? At a time when quality games can be bought for a dollar, are XBLA prices getting out of hand?
Huge thanks to the entire team of writers who worked on this article: Christine Mitchell, Nathan Bowring, Perry Jackson, Ryan Reynolds and Todd Schlickbernd.
