Online retailer Amazon has acquired Twitch for a cool $970 million in cash. After being courted by Google for a couple of months, this deal came somewhat as a surprise.
In a public letter to the Twitch community, CEO Emmett Shear wrote, “We chose Amazon because they believe in our community, they share our values and long-term vision, and they want to help us get there faster.”
