Online retailer Amazon has acquired Twitch for a cool $970 million in cash. After being courted by Google for a couple of months, this deal came somewhat as a surprise.

In a public letter to the Twitch community, CEO Emmett Shear wrote, “We chose Amazon because they believe in our community, they share our values and long-term vision, and they want to help us get there faster.”

If you like Twitch the way it is, don’t worry. “We’re keeping most everything the same,” Shear explained, “our office, our employees, our brand, and most importantly our independence. But with Amazon’s support we’ll have the resources to bring you an even better Twitch.”

Here’s to seeing what Twitch’s “long-term vision” becomes with the help of Amazon. XBLA Fans streams Xbox One games on Twitch each week. You can follow our channel at twitch.tv/xblafans.
