Burnout Crash was developed by Criterion Games and published by EA. It was released September 21, 2011 for 800 MSP. A copy of the game was provided for review purposes.
Crashing cars has always been the appeal and the overall point of the Burnout series. Up until the last installment in the series, Burnout Paradise, Crash mode had been a staple that rivaled the the core racing game in popularity. Believe it or not, six years have passed since Criterion’s puzzle-like mode has seen a release of any kind. The wait has been far too long.
In Burnout Crash, the series is taken to new levels of absurdity as players wreak havoc in Crash City; a city with locations as diverse as those at a movie studio and more natural disasters than a town in Sim City. The game consists of 18 intersections ready to be deconstructed in 3 game modes. Each revolves around the concept of driving a car into a busy intersection and using a recharging explosive blast, known as a Crashbreaker, to how much damage can be done under a given mode’s conditions. How does Crash hold up in it’s solo debut?

Beat em’ ups are awesome. There’s nothing like delivering some blows to a virtual bad guy to calm a rough day. The list of great beat em’ ups is a mile long, but one stands out as a great candidate for re-release on Xbox Live Arcade: Def Jam Fight for New York. Of the four Def Jam fighting games it stands head and shoulders above its peers. Vendetta, the first game in the series, was great, but didn’t have the features New York first exhibited. The PSP version of New York, subtitled The Takeover, had a few new gameplay elements but removed all voiceovers. Finally Icon, the only current-gen title, was absolutely horrible, taking fighting far beyond over-the-top to a point where it’s comically awful.
No, there’s only one in the series that could truly make a comeback.

New details on Burnout Crash have surfaced. We can now confirm that the game is being developed by none other than Criterion Games, daddy to the Burnout series. We speculated back in April that this would be an Xbox Live Arcade title, and we can finally confirm that is. But don’t expect this to be the Burnout you know and love. This one looks to be a top down vehicular havoc game in the spirit of the Flash title Roadkill Revenge. “Burnout CRASH! is a crazy mix of pinball and game shows,” said Richard Franke, Creative Director.
The game will make use of the Autolog feature found in 2010’s Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. The feature will be used to complete challenges between friends, and presumably to gloat as well. But we’re trying not to be disappointed. As much as we like to see developers try new things we were hoping for something akin to Burnout 3 or Burnout Revenge. Still, it’s best not to judge a game before it’s in our hands, and Criterion has never let us down before. We’re remaining optimistic. Burnout Crash hits digital shelves this fall. Gatling Gears was developed by Vanguard Games and published by EA. It was released on May 11th, 2011 for 1200MSP. A copy of the game was provided for review purposes.
Gatling Gears is a top-down, dual-stick shooter where you play as a retired Gatling Gear pilot, Max Brawley. Your objective is to shoot your way through 30 levels including six boss fights in order to stop the “Empire” from destroying your surrounding area and draining all natural resources. The story is lacking, but dual-stick games are all about the action, not the story. Gatling Gears certainly does bring hours of fun filled action, but the game also has its fair share of problems.
