Zeno Clash II heading to XBLA 2013

Zeno Clash II

Keen to get their game announcement in before E3 2012 starts, publishers Atlus have teamed up with developers ACE Team and revealed that Zeno Clash II is heading to XBLA early next year. First-person melee brawler Zeno Clash: Ultimate Edition, was released on XBLA back in 2010 and the sequel is promised to be “bigger, bolder and better in every way”.

Players will take on the role of lead character Ghat and explore the open-world of Zenozoik. Fans of the original will be pleased to hear that most of the characters, enemies, and items from the first game will return along with some new character designs, imaginative weapons and RPG elements that allow players to gain more strength and master defense. Also new to the game will be Ghat’s sister Rimat who can be controlled by a second player in drop in-drop out online co-operative multiplayer.

XBLAFancast Episode 64 – Pre3

It’s an early regular show this week as we’re planning to have a few E3 specials ep throughout the rest of the coming week. Our EIC John Laster joins myself and Todd for this quick fire show, we talk this weeks and last weeks releases plus a little what we’ve been playing. After that it’s a crazy amount of pre-E3 news, then we round things out with a couple of twitter questions.

In an effort to get this episode up speedily and early the audio quality and consistency has taken a slight dip. Apologies for that, the rest of the podcasts this week will be the usual quality you’d expect.

Look for a special episode on Monday or Tuesday focusing on Microsoft’s press conference, we expect to hear about the Summer of Arcade titles at some point in or around the conference. We should also have some audio from the folks we have at E3 so look out for those too.

Please subscribe, rate and review the podcast on iTunes. We appreciate it! Check us out on twitter (@XBLAFans) where you can win codes for games, give us feedback or just ask a question. We are also now on Stitcher, so you can stream the show on your smartphone, give it a go!

Big thanks to Chris Green for the awesome theme music, be sure to check out his site BlurredEdge and why not follow him on twitter too @BlurredEdge.

XBLA’s Most Wanted: Re-Volt

XBLA’s Most Wanted: Re-Volt

The summer of 1999 was an interesting time. With the quickly oncoming Y2K scare gas and food prices rose, people were keeping a cache of money outside of the bank, and in general the easily worried population were beside themselves with worry about the oncoming computer crashes that would happen with the new year.

Gamers? We were plugging away at great games on our PCs, Nintendo 64s, and PlayStations. Among the most popular was Re-Volt, an RC-themed racing game where being tiny in a big world meant exciting gameplay. It captured players on the three above platforms as well as the Dreamcast, sucking them in to the oversized world. It was among the few candidates for testing the original Xbox LIVE. Sadly, the game never saw a retail release on the Xbox.

Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds media teases 2013 release

Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds, the XBLA 2D side-scroller outed the other day by Famitsu, will release exclusively on XBLA in 2013, the above debut trailer reveals. This first trailer is obviously meant for Japan, with an HD version said to be coming at some point during E3 next week. It’s unknown whether or not the high-def cut will be redone for the English-speaking world or not.

Either way, eager gamers can peruse the gallery down below there full of in-game screens and character art emphasizing the new 8-bit-inspired art style. The visuals are a stark departure from the original title’s looks. Conversely, the game’s controls are said to be almost an exact match of those found in the fighting game that preceded it, allowing vets to easily jump right into the fray. Speaking of jumping in, the only characters playable from the start of the adventure will be Mikoto, Waka, Itsuki and Yuzuha. The remainder of the cast will presumably be unlocked as players progress through levels.

Pricing has not yet been decided upon for the spin-off of the 2009 fighting game known simply as Phantom Breaker. A few solid gameplay details have now shaken lose thanks to Famitsu, though. In addition the main game featuring 4-player co-op, there will also be a “Battle Royale” mode that pits players against each other in different scenarios, such as one player taking on three others by his lonesome.
