Rock Band Blitz was developed and published by Harmonix. It will be released on August 29, 2012 for 1200 MSP. A copy was provided for review purposes.
With the emergence of online gaming, calling up friends to come over and play a video game seems like a distant memory. The most prominent party game a few years ago was Rock Band. Harmonix had struck gold with the be-all-end-all of party games. Hours passed as friends played the drums, keyboard, guitar, and of course the vocals. Everyone had “that friend” who tried to hit the falsetto on Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. While we all had fun with the “wannabe Freddie Mercury”, Harmonix has developed a new way to enjoy their rhythm-based game with the release of Rock Band Blitz on XBLA.
Rock Band Blitz is an entertaining music game utilizing controller-based play. Touting 25 songs, Harmonix channels their popular PS2 game Frequency; players control all of the tracks in a song and use power-ups to accumulate stars and points. An interesting twist is earning multipliers for each track, and players must get the maximum number of multipliers on all tracks to raise their level cap. Another way to gain points is to enter Blitz Mode. While hitting every note is impossible, hitting many of them in a row will put players into this mode, where they’ll start earning additional points for every tenth note hit.

Gritty hack-n-slasher, Bloodforge, recently received a title update. The game was launched back in April as part of the Arcade Next promotion and despite its unusual graphics style, didn’t impress us much. Our News Editor Perry Jackson awarded the game a “Try It” score on review, criticising shoddy camera angles and a lackluster story. However developers Climax Studios have taken note and addressed some of the issues, including the camera, with the new patch:
“We’ve read the reviews, heard the feedback, and spent some time to trying to improve on the issues that were highlighted by many of you. We always hoped to entertain with the game and this Title Update is intended to provide a more enjoyable experience to players, and make elements less frustrating.
While not being a complete overhaul, which would have taken Bloodforge away from the vision that we still believe in, we hope this update will manage to address and mitigate several issues present in the original release and will be appreciated by the community.”
Have you tried Bloodforge since the patch was released? Do you feel it’s now worth a “Buy It”? Let us know in the comments section. For full patch notes, hit the jump.

The second part of Joe Danger 2: The Movies, is the Deleted Scenes section. These levels are a little crazier, often involving strange vehicles, odd backrounds and weird characters. There also happens to be additional Pro Medals here. These ones tend to be a little harder to acquire, so be patient, it may take a few tries for some of those later medals. Remember that you must complete the entire level, and complete all objectives at once to obtain the Pro Medal. Below are videos showing you how to do that very thing!

This year we decided to collectively look at each of the Summer of Arcade games. So all this week we’ve been posting roundtable discussions of the games in order of release (Tony Hawk, Wreckateer, Deadlight, Hybrid). Today we end with the most well received game in the line-up. Humble Hearts’ Dust: An Elysian Tail, takes a tried and true formula and adds some oft-times breathtaking art to make an incredibly solid package.
