New Diabolical Pitch screenshots bring the heat

Grasshopper Manufacture has released five new screenshots of their upcoming Kinect enabled baseball/horror hybrid Diabolical Pitch. For those unfamiliar Diabolical Pitch gives players control over a baseball player in an amusement park overrun by horrors. To fend off the game’s enemies, you’ll be throwing baseballs utilizing Kinect’s motion sensor. Think of it as a quasi-light gun game. One that has you throwing fastballs at guys wearing tiger masks. The madness can be kicked up a notch by playing the game with a friend in multiplayer mode, which allows you to combine forces and utilize different abilities and power ups. To take a look at the rest of the screenshots that Suda 51’s gang has tossed our way, click the link below.

Crimson Dragon officially debuted

Further information about upcoming XBLA game Crimson Dragon was revealed at an event in Tokyo yesterday. Previously known as Project Draco the kinect game was officially renamed at the event by lead developer at Grounding Inc, Yukio Futatsugi. We knew all about that already thanks to the Australian ratings board, but it was also revealed that the game plays as an on-rails shooter with online multiplayer co-op for up to three players. The game hosts six different dragon types to play with, each with different attributes and three of these were demonstrated at the event: the balanced “Blood Skin”, strong but slow “Dark Shoulder” and “Snow Wing” who excels in learning new skills. Futatsugi favoured Snow Wing, for its learning ability since new skills can be gained by eating food in the game, though it’s not guaranteed to take every time.

Famitsu also published a wealth of new screens for the game and you can check these out after the jump.

Happy Action Theater review (XBLA)

Happy Action Theater review (XBLA)

Happy Action Theater was developed by Double Fine Productions and published by Microsoft Studios. It was released February 1, 2012 for 800 MSP. A copy was provided for review purposes.

Double Fine Productions is a household name when it comes to Xbox Live Arcade games. Stacking, Trenched/Iron Brigade and Costume Quest are all titles that everyone should have on their machine. They’re all original properties; they were risks for both Double Fine and their publishers to put out, but each has succeeded. Now Double Fine wants to go out on a limb with their new Kinect title, Happy Action Theater.

The game itself is a collection of 18 minigames. Most involve players viewing themselves on screen with other digitized elements added such as snow, lava, or water. Players interact with objects in the environment such as balloons or fish to have them in turn react. There is no winning the game. It’s just you and the environment and acting like a fool. To some that sounds like fun. To others, well…

Project Draco fires up to become Crimson Dragon

We’ve known for some time that upcoming XBLA game Project Draco would be getting a name change prior to release and developers Grounding Inc, recently mentioned to our intrepid twitter tipper @lifelower that it would finally be announced at a Microsoft event in Toyko later this month. However it seems that the jig is up for the new name has shown up on the Australian ratings board as Crimson Dragon. Microsoft’s PlayXBLA blog have since revealed a smart new logo for the game and a shiny new screen shot, to give it a bit more of an official fanfare.

XBLAFancast Episode 48 – Kinectin’ with Nick

Last week was a big Kinect week on XBLA, so we decided to get Xbox Kinect Fans writer Nick DePetris to join us and share his thoughts. Sadly that means no Todd this week, but don’t let that put you off we still have a fun packed show for you.

Nick kicks things off by telling us about Double Fine’s Happy Action Theater and Rhythm Party, both of which are pretty interesting additions to the Kinect library. Myself and Andrew played a bit of Iron Brigade DLC pack, Rise of the Martian Bear, which we don’t mind telling you is pretty tough!

Perry drops many a news bomb on us, check below for links to the full stories we discussed.

In Crews’ Community Corner Andrew chooses a twitter question in which @wolvie75 asked what our dream Summer of Arcade line up would be, choosing from the previous promotions. You’ll have to listen to the show to find out our answers though. Also be sure to check out Carcassonne for Remember The Days and let us know what you think on twitter.

Please subscribe, comment, review the podcast on iTunes and tell your friends! We appreciate it! Check us out on twitter (@XBLAFans) where you can win codes for games, give us feedback or just ask a question. We are also now on Stitcher, so you can stream the show on your smartphone, give it a go!

Big thanks again to Chris Green for the awesome theme music, be sure to check out his site BlurredEdge and why not follow him on twitter too @BlurredEdge.
