Diabolical Pitch review (XBLA)

Diabolical Pitch was developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and published by Microsoft. It was released on April 4, 2012 for 800 MSP. A copy was provided for review purposes.

When the gaming world learned that Suda 51 and Grasshopper Manufacture were developing a game that would utilize Kinect, taste buds quickly started to tingle. Grasshopper is known as one of the most creative and stylish developers out there, so the prospect of their minds working with the new technology had many buzzing with anticipation. The final product, Diabolical Pitch, is as wild and fantastic as everyone had hoped. In Diabolical Pitch, you take on the role of a professional baseball pitcher who is struck down with injury at the peak of his career. Shortly after this tragic turn of events, our protagonist decides to visit a theme park. It is here that our hero is greeted by a cow in a shirt and tie who enables our hero to throw again. This gift however, comes with a price. McMillan must make his way through this dark and twisted carnival, which is filled with horrors. Mostly just life sized dolls that resemble strange animal-human hybrids. Armed only with his pitching arm, McMillan must take it to this marionette army of zoo animals if he ever wants to return to Hall of Fame form. This is where our strange adventure begins.

New Diabolical Pitch screenshots bring the heat

Grasshopper Manufacture has released five new screenshots of their upcoming Kinect enabled baseball/horror hybrid Diabolical Pitch. For those unfamiliar Diabolical Pitch gives players control over a baseball player in an amusement park overrun by horrors. To fend off the game’s enemies, you’ll be throwing baseballs utilizing Kinect’s motion sensor. Think of it as a quasi-light gun game. One that has you throwing fastballs at guys wearing tiger masks. The madness can be kicked up a notch by playing the game with a friend in multiplayer mode, which allows you to combine forces and utilize different abilities and power ups. To take a look at the rest of the screenshots that Suda 51’s gang has tossed our way, click the link below.

Telltale’s The Walking Dead adaptation shambles onto Xbox Live Arcade this spring

Telltale Games is finally spreading the infectious details of their episodic horror/adventure series based on the popular comic book and television show, The Walking Dead. In episode one of the game, players will step into the shoes of a character new to the franchise during the initial outbreak and the fall of Atlanta. While Telltale has been shy thus far to discuss gameplay details, the developers are not shy in letting it be known that story will take the center stage. The development team is aiming to force players to feel the emotion of what’s going on around them, and to connect to what the characters are going through. Anyone who reads The Walking Dead comics knows that this is no normal zombie fair. Speaking of the comics, fans of The Walking Dead comics and/or television show will be happy to know that several familiar faces will be making appearances in the game. Perhaps even more exciting is the fact that series creator Robert Kirkman is guiding Telltale in the development of the game, which is also being penned by Book of Eli writer Gary Whitta.

AMY review (XBLA)

AMY was developed by VectorCell and published by Lexis Numérique. It was released on January 11, 2012 for 800 MSP. A copy was provided for review purposes.

AMY is a survival horror game much along the lines of the original Resident Evil or Silent Hill–at least that’s the plan. Unfortunately about the only things AMY and those games have in common are a good idea and some clunky controls. Apparently there’s some unwritten rule that to be a member of the survival-horror genre, your game must play like it was made in the mid to late 90’s. You are Lana, a seemingly big-hearted woman who has been infected. The task is simple, figure out what the hell is going on and keep Amy alive. Along the way you will meet several infected, a couple intriguing characters and few shady ones. Not much more to explain then that, now for the guts of this thing . . .

Lexis Numérique’s AMY is aiming to tame uncharted waters for an Xbox Live Arcade game. Upon its release it will be (presumably) the first XBLA title to focus on the horror genre.
