There’s nothing more enticing than that tease, that pinch, that itch you get from a fantastic trailer. With retail games, so many of them get these bloated budgets and the trailers get absolutely insane, but XBLA has to rely on their creativity! Their imagination! Their sense of wonder!… And yes, money also. However, not every trailer is amazing, but the best ones combine with some great games and catchy trailer ideas to really entice you. This week’s Friday Top Five will be about these beautiful, and often evil, displays of awesome, wallet-attacking footage. We were looking for that marriage of gameplay, story, presentation and shameless plugging, and we’ve found the best examples of it.

The people behind Awesomenauts are once again gracing us with a few new looks at the game. This time it is through conceptual art, letting us see some of the different ideas and designs that they thought about. The one above is one of the game levels with tons of different color and shape schemes that they thought about using. Other pictures in the set include character design, ship designs and even an early turret design that they decided was to easy to bypass and eventually changed. You can check out all the new pictures after the break and while you’re at it, let us know which color design for the level you like best in the comments section below.
More awesome from Ronimo Games, as if it’ll ever stop, with the latest character showcase. This time, Yuri is caught in the limelight! That is, if he’s got his healing upgrade. Yuri, easily described as a crazy ivan with a jetpack, is a character who doesn’t prefer to get into the thick of things. With a jetpack for mobility and a long range laser for damage, Yuri can stay at a safe distance if necessary. When a fight’s going down and nobody’s got an eye on the sky, however, Yuri can easily hover above and drop bombs, of which he has many different types. Lastly, when it’s time to defend, Yuri can deploy an aura around him which has different effects ranging from damage to healing. This gentleman, using the lightest definition of the word possible, is going to be an amazing pusher and defender due to his bombs, aura and range. To see more of what he has to offer, check the five minute gameplay video after the jump. Keep your eye on XBLA Fans for the final character showcase coming soon.
