Happy Action Theater sequel revealed

By  •  News

As we reported early last week, Double Fine Productions unveiled its sequel to Double Fine Happy Action Theater via a nearly 40-minute livestream over at GiantBomb on Friday. Like the game that came before it, the sequel will focus on Kinect-based mini-games that put the player(s) in wild and crazy situations (say, for example, turning yourself into a fire-breathing dragon and demolishing a city).

XBLA’s Most Wanted: Spider-Man

XBLA’s Most Wanted: Spider-Man

Spidey is no stranger to video games. Wikipedia lists over 30 titles under the webslinger’s banner. But let’s be honest here, only a handful of them stand out. One that is stands near the top of that list is Spider-Man for the PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Mac and PC. It was the first time players really felt like Spider-Man. No longer were we limited to two dimensions. We were (relatively) free to choose our path. While the levels were linear, they had a certain feeling of freedom. You could cling to the ceiling, wrap a thug in webbing, and even web swing for a short time. It was innovative, it was entertaining, and it had all the Spider-Man charm. We want it back.

Hybrid Build Guide

Hybrid Build Guide

Update: We now have a section on general tips & tricks sent to us by the QA team at 5th cell as well as level guides coming soon.

Welcome to our Hybrid build guide! This guide will provide builds to use throughout each of Hybrid‘s modes and are designed to account, collectively, for a good 90% of the game. Hybrid is designed with a lot of variety, in fact it’s one of the things we liked in our review, so ultimately you and your team mates will deviate from builds, even the ones we have made for you here. However, it’s important to have a starting point, especially if you’re not familiar with Hybrid regarding what actually matters and what doesn’t. For instance, most shooters don’t subscribe to the idea of “suppression”, it’s usually not very effective, but it works in Hybrid and it works well.

Do enjoy the builds we’ve provided for you here, but keep in mind that these are starting points! Add your own flare or personal preference to really do well with them. If you have any suggestions, feel free to comment on the guide and in a few weeks we’ll add good ones to a community section at the bottom of the guide. While the builds we’ve created for you here are more general, feel free to get ridiculously specific- all the way down to map and mode.

Enjoy the guide, and enjoy the game!

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive videos brings joy to fans, old and new

By  •  Media, Videos

Let us take you back in time. The year? 2001. When it comes to multiplayer gaming, the PC platform is king. Even up to present day, PC fans will still argue that it is the superior platform. They plea their cases, arguing that playing with a mouse and keyboard will allow you to have better gameplay and graphics are superior. While all of this can be true, there is one thing that you had to combat when you played on a PC: Hackers.  Does the terms “Aimbots”, “White wallers”, “Speedhacks” ring a bell?

Nothing was more frustrating as an up-and-coming gamer to enter a server and see that fellow players were running through the maps at high speeds and getting headshots with a pistol from the entire length of the map away. One of the worst culprits with hacking was in Valve’s Half-Life Counterstrike. Even after Valve’s VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat) was released, it felt like you could not find one server that did not have at least one hacker in it.

Where is all of this going in terms of XBLA? Well, the folks over at Valve and Hidden Path Entertainmnent are looking to revive our love for the game by releasing: Counter-Strike Global Offensive, for the XBLA, PSN, and Steam network. The developers are tickling our nostalgia bone by offering updated versions of the eight classic maps (De_Dust, Aztec to name a few), as well as adding eight more maps. As seen in the videos after the break, the game has made significant advancements, and at 1200MSP is a steal for old and new fans of the Counter-Strike series.
