Telltale announces two new games

By  •  News

During the VGX awards this past weekend, Telltale Games revealed two brand new episodic game series. One announcement confirmed a rumor, while another is a bit of a surprise.

Telltale revealed it is in fact working on a Game of Thrones series in partnership with HBO. The game will take its inspiration from the television series, which is based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire book series. Players will be thrown into the action and politics of Westeros, having the power to make choices that will impact the narrative.

Telltale also announced that it will be collaborating with Gearbox Software to make Tales from Borderlands, a spin-off series set in the universe of the popular Borderlands franchise. Despite being part of a series known for shooting and looting, Telltale’s signature storytelling will be front and center. Taking place on Pandora, the game will feature a cast of familiar faces as well as brand new characters.

Both games will be coming in 2014. With these games, plus The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, it’s obvious next year is going to be big for both Telltale and its fans. You can watch the teaser trailers for both games after the jump.

The Bridge review (XBLA)

The Bridge was developed by Ty Taylor and Mario Castañeda and published by Midnight City. It was released on November 13, 2013 for $9.99. An Xbox 360 copy was provided for review purposes.

thebridge

The Bridge is advertised as “a cerebral 2D puzzle experience”; a genre that is plentiful on the Xbox Live Arcade marketplace. It follows many of the current trends in puzzle gaming while also introducing a few new and interesting mechanics. But does The Bridge build enough upon its puzzle roots to deliver a unique and riveting experience that is all its own? Or does it fall flat in its attempt to provide brain-teasing puzzles that are more frustrating than fun?

Does Kinect justify the Xbox One’s $500 price tag?

xbox_one_kinect

There has been a veritable whirlwind of excitement, controversy and anticipation surrounding the release of Microsoft’s latest video game console since it was unveiled back in May. Microsoft has had to backpedal on unpopular policies regarding digital rights management and limitations placed on used games, but the electric feeling that surrounds every console launch has truly never wavered.

Despite some of the unpopular choices made by Microsoft, the Xbox One remains at its core not only a capable gaming machine, but also an all-around entertainment hub. The real question, then, is how to justify its $500 price tag: a $100 premium over the PS4.
