Frogger: Hyper Arcade Edition screens hop across the street

Konami has released several new screenshots for Zombie Studios’ Frogger: Hyper Arcade Edition, and unlike George Costanza‘s Frogger high score, these screens have successfully made it across the street to their destination: your browser window. Of course, not even Schlomo and Slippery Pete could have blundered this one. Ah, references.

In any case, this latest incarnation of the 31-years-old franchise, players will be able to square off against each other or the CPU in four-player matches to determine “who’s really the top frog.” And how!

Double Fine’s Ron Gilbert and Sega bringing The Cave to XBLA

You might have thought Double Fine had forgotten about XBLA, with their Kickstarter fame all we’ve heard XBLA-wise is rumblings of new Iron Brigade content. Now Sega is publishing their brand new game entitled The Cave, conceived by Maniac Mansion creator Ron Gilbert. It’s an adventure game with puzzle and platforming elements but not in a traditional sense and more Metroidvania-style exploration. You’ll assemble a crack team of spelunkers each with different abilities and personalities. You can switch between any of the three characters on the fly or use 3-player local co-op. The characters include a scientist, a knight and a hillbilly…because why not? Ron Gilbert had this to say about The Cave:

“The concept of The Cave has been bouncing around in my head for many, many years, and then the little voices that tell me to do things said it was time to make the game,” added Ron Gilbert. “I’m thrilled to be working with amazingly talented folks at Double Fine and ecstatic that the team at SEGA believes in adventure games and quirky ideas.

Catch some screenshots after the jump, the game will be out some time in 2013.

Crimson Dragon flying to the Land of the Rising Sun June 13

Microsoft Japan has revealed that Crimson Dragon, the on-rails dragon combat title from Grounding, Inc. and Land Ho! Co. Ltd., is set to release in Japan on June 13, reports Famitsu. The Kinect-enabled spiritual successor to the Panzer Dragoon series will cost gamers 1200 Microsoft Points. No release details have been made available in regards to American and European territories at this time.

A trio of new dragons were also shown and detailed for the first time, meaning that all six of the game’s dragon types are now known. Black Bone makes up for his lack of agility with powerful main attacks and skills such as his “homing-Ray,” which locks on to a multitude of baddies. Golden Hawk has strong defensive attributes and a move called “plasma Barrett.” A rough translation identifies the move as “a power attack fire.” Last up is Silver Tail, who is sort of the smarty-pants of flying lizards. Silver Tail has the highest mental strength but low stamina. His main “Vision Lightning” ability allows for a form of automated tracking, and his main attack will be customizable to some degree.

Worms Revolution will have class system

Worms Revolution will have class system

Team17 will deliver plenty of new features to the Worms franchise in Worms Revolution, such as the new engine and environments, but today we see new additions to gameplay. The latest installment of the wacky turn-based series will be the first Worms game to feature a class system.

Their are four brand new classes: soldier, scientist, scout, and heavy. Each class will have 4 different variants, for a total of 16 unlockable worms. The soldier class will be most familiar to fans of the franchise; it is not specialized, but can fight and get around well enough. The scientist is the support class; he is weak and slow, but can build the strongest items and heals the team on his turn. The scout is also weak, but extremely light and agile. He’ll fly farther if hit, but will also take less fall damage than the heavier classes. Then there’s the heavy, the biggest and most powerful worm available. He may not be very agile, even with a jetpack or ninja rope, but is almost immovable when hit by an enemy attack.

Players can mix and match classes on their team, so they can have a diverse team, or a team comprised of only one class. Click the link below to see screenshots of the classes, and start thinking about your team strategies. Worms Revolutions will release third quarter 2012.

Joy Ride Turbo announced for XBLA

Microsoft have announced that Joy Ride Turbo will be heading to XBLA. The new game is from the developers of Kinect Joy Ride, Big Park Studios and it’s launch is said to be “just weeks away”. Fans of the genre may also be pleased to hear that the game has gone back to it’s original design roots, for the karting action will be controller-based rather than the Kinect controls of it’s predecessor. According to Microsoft, Joy Ride Turbo is said to feature the following:

• Race your friends in local 4-player split-screen or compete with up to 8 on Xbox LIVE.
• Knock out your competitors and take the race lead with rockets, mines, dynamite drops and more.
• Explore the new Stunt Park to gather all of the collectibles and showoff your skills.
• Find and collect car parts to unlock vehicles, each with unique speed and handling characteristics, giving you an edge in your next race.
• Achieve racing leaderboard fame in 3 modes of play: Battle Race, Pro Race & Time Trial.

Joy Ride had been originally announced back in 2009 at E3 to be a free to play XBLA game, however many gamers were disappointed when it was re-designed and released as a Kinect only retail game, Kinect Joy Ride. There is no word on how this new version will be priced but PlayXBLA have published some brand new screenshots to enjoy while we wait for more information.

Take a peek at the maps of Awesomenauts

If, like many of the XBLAFans staff, you are eagerly anticipating the release of the 2D MOBA game Awesomenauts then you may want to take a good long look at the screens below. Ronimo have just posted these images on their Facebook page of the three maps that will ship with the game in two weeks.

The three maps are Sorana, AI Station 404 and Ribbit IV. Aside from having different layouts and visual styles each map also has a unique element such as AI Station’s anti-gravity field which will allow players to float around the area. AI Station 404 also has “Creep Releasers” on each side of the map, allowing teams to reinforce their attack. Ribbit IV has a “Solarboss” on each side of the map, which is an extra tough neutral enemy for teams to tackle and reap the rewards if they succeed. In the center of the Sorona map there is a giant worm who has taken up residence in a mineshaft, players can call on it by pressing a button on the map, causing trouble for anyone in the vicinity.

You can check out the maps for yourself below and be sure to head over to the Awesomenauts Facebook page for more info. Awesomenauts will be released on May 2 for 800 MSP. Read More

Candy for Keflings gets some sweet new screenshots

Some brand new screenshots of the upcoming DLC pack for A World of Keflings have recently surfaced. The candy based theme for the new pack, named Candy for Keflings, was chosen by fans in a fiercely competitive poll on the PlayXBLA blog, with the other choices being Pirates for Keflings and A Graveyard for Keflings. Staff here at XBLA Fans heavily campaigned for the candy themed pack to be picked so we were pretty chuffed when it won out in the end.
