Choplifter HD touching down at PAX

By  •  News

Not every game is about destroying every single thing you see in sight, and it’s so easy to see a helicopter and think missiles, rockets, miniguns, explosions, but in inXile Entertainment’s upcoming game Choplifter HD it’s more about the lives to be rescued than the enemies to blow up. If that doesn’t tug at your heart strings, then feel free to return to blow stuff up, dodge missiles mode because Choplifter HD has that too even if it’s not all that goes on.

Now for those who have never played the original Choplifter the premise might not be too familiar save for those people who have been rescued by a choplifter (hope you thanked your pilot) so perhaps it’s necessary to get some hands-on time. Well anyone headed to PAX Prime is in luck as InXile Entertainment will be there showing off the game with playable missions and even an opportunity to see some of their special guests in the game, including the one and only Duke Nukem. We strongly encourage you to check out their game and our interview with Jairo Silva, Choplifter HD‘s Senior Game Designer, which will be going live later today.

A Virus Named Tom destined for XBLA

By  •  News

Xbox Live Arcade is filled with all sorts of match-3 style puzzle games and platforming puzzlers, but perhaps it’s been a while since we’ve seen an action puzzler without all the jumping and the falling. Well Misfits Attic’s A Virus Named Tom plans to fill that void, fill it with all sorts of infectious action puzzler goodness. While the game may be a ways off, plenty is known about it and there’s even a gameplay trailer brimming with personality (and viruses). Watch it below the jump, and don’t worry, we guarantee it’s not a security risk.

If you’re too lazy to watch the video or fear the brimming of its hilariousness, we could go at length to describe the game but the developers have said it best:

Imagine trying to solve a simple puzzle. Now imagine people are throwing potatoes at you. So while you’re trying to concentrate, you now have to dodge potatoes (they hurt more than you’d think). Actually it’s more like you’re trying to diffuse a bomb, because there’s a timer that’s counting down to doom-o’clock. Yeah, so it’s basically like you’re a really unpopular bomb squad. But at least you can get your friends to help: by telling you how you’re solving the problem wrong, or kicking the potato-ers in the shin. That’s basically the game. Oh, and there’s also a territory mode you can play against your friends. Make sense?

Orcs Must Die! hands-on preview

Orcs Must Die! hands-on preview

Orcs. They’re green, they’re smelly, they’re rude, and they cheat at poker, so they must die. But it shouldn’t stop there, their transgressions upon humanity are so notorious that they shouldn’t just die, they should be punished for having lived. No game features as much orc-centric punishment as Orcs Must Die! from Robot Entertainment. Use sadistic traps and powerful weapons to sort, punish and mow down waves of brutish creatures in this real time strategy turned fast paced action game.

At first glance Orcs Must Die! is a game of strategy requiring much thought. It requires players to manage space with different traps dealing different amounts of damage and have various affects on enemies. Tar traps slow and magma tiles burn, spike traps impale and archers perforate, and when conducted properly the trap symphony comes together in a comical crescendo of devilishly delivered death. However the action is just as player focused as it is trap focused. Our hero’s faithful crossbow can dole out headshots or hectic rapid fire and can supplement his repertoire with other weapons like one that shoots ice and one that can lay down a powerful firewall. Orcs Must Die! is a hybrid title like no other.
