In my review of Game of Thrones Episode 1: Iron From Ice, I mentioned that whilst things were being set up rather nicely for the series ahead, the episode in isolation was a little uneventful. Thankfully, The Lost Lords goes some way to correcting this and features more action, more opportunity for intrigue and at least one twist which I certainly did not see coming.

With House Forrester barely clinging to existence at the end of Episode 1, a momentous tempo swing was always going to be required in Episode 2 and boy, does The Lost Lords deliver that if nothing else. It’s always a mistake to get too comfortable with a particular character or group in the Game of Thrones series (a tradition which Telltale also follows to a similar extent) but the fiction also allows for new protagonists to be introduced spectacularly as they move from nowhere to center stage in the blink of a heartbeat. The Lost Lords is well written, positioning a large number of key characters in pivotal positions with credibility and skill; ultimately leaving us hanging in the knowledge that surely not all them can be successful, can they?

In summary, Episode 2 of Game of Thrones builds upon the solid work done in the first episode in a meaningful way. You’ll feel more tied up in the fate of House Forrester than you want to believe by the end of The Lost Lords. And although you’ll be dreading the inevitable calamities that Episode 3, 4 and beyond might bring, I’m quite sure that you’ll be feeling compelled to finish the entire season. Unfortunately the same technical issues which plague all Telltale games are still present – even the processing power of Xbox One is unable to stop the ceaseless stuttering that detracts from combat sequences – thankfully it’s not a game-breaker.
