Inbound XBLA titles up for IGF awards

By  •  News

Two of the most hotly anticipated XBLA titles primed for release this year have been nominated for awards at the 2012 Independent Games Festival. Polytron developed Fez and Mossmouth’s XBLA version of PC-hit Spelunky have tallied five nominations between them. Congratulations are in order.

Both games have been put forward for the Seamus McNally Grand Prize as well as the Technical Excellence award, with Spelunky snatching a third nomination in the Excellence in Design category. The caliber of the competition at this year’s Independent Games Festival is particularly high with games like Atom Zombie Smasher, To the Moon and Frozen Synapse vying for bragging rights alongside the future XBLA titles, a sure-fire indication of Fez and Spelunky’s potential to be something special.

Kinect title Haunt to launch on January 18

By  •  Media, Videos, News

Haunt, the Kinect-controlled XBLA game announced way back in 2010, will be available to purchase next Wednesday at the modest price of 800 Microsoft Points. Created by Parappa the Rapper developer Nanaon-Sha, the Xbox-exclusive title promises to deliver a horror experience the entire family can enjoy.

Using only body movements, players explore Benjamin Muldoon’s mansion; an eerie abode populated by fiendish phantoms that looks to have an air of Grabbed by the Ghoulies about it. It’s a story-driven experience that asks players to unveil the secrets of Muldoon Mansion whilst doing battle with its ghostly occupants. There’s also mention of ghouls that can only be vanquished by screaming in their direction. Sounds spooky. For more on Haunt, take a look at the Tokyo Game Show trailer below. Thanks to @lifelower for the heads up. Hit the jump for a video.

Gotham City Impostors delayed, how about some animated trailers?

By  •  News

Gotham City Impostors may have been jolted back into the February release window, but that’s no reason to scrub off the face-paint or ditch your utility belt. Publisher Warner Bros. has released a steady stream of animated trailers for the Monolith developed multiplayer first person shooter. The videos delve into the lives of its eclectic mob of Batman wannabes and Joker-inspired pretenders, characters who appear to care little for Bats’ moral obligation to Gotham or the Joker’s famed drollness. A 9mm works just fine for these guys. The videos are a good primer for the main event and are all right here for your viewing pleasure (Part 1 above).
