Huge sales record for XBLA in 2010

By  •  News

Xbox Live Arcade made Microsoft $122 million in revenue last year, accord to analysts at Forecasting & Analyzing Digital Entertainment (FADE). That’s a rise of 16% over how much they made in 2009, a combination of more consoles in the wild and more gamers beginning to try out digital distribution.

The biggest seller in terms of units was Dead Rising 2: Case Zero,  a game notable for it’s lower than usual price point. Being 560 points when most new releases are 800 or 1200 points. Case Zero was also interesting in that it was an experimental prologue for a full retail game. The fact it was such a great success could mean we see similar games on XBLA in the future.

If you’re interested in the other top selling games on XBLA last year you can see them after the jump.

XBLA Wednesday: Bombs, Bricks and Breach

By  •  News

This Wednesday is full of explosions and destruction with DLC from both Raskulls (160 Microsoft points) and Bomberman (240 MP) and XBLA game Breach (1200 MP) all colliding with the Xbox Live marketplace. Each game is jam-packed with its own brand of destruction: take bricks apart in true action-puzzle-platform (or, what I refer to as, “platfuzzaction“) as you race your friends or the A.I. in Raskulls; blow your friends to bits with all sorts of power ups on a whole slew of inventive maps in Bomberman; or approach each combat situation tactically, complete the objective and blow up some walls in Breach. No matter what your style of gaming is, guaranteed this XBLA Wednesday has a destruction-infused game to suit your needs. Read More

New details have emerged today from 5th Cell regarding their upcoming XBLA shooter Hybrid along with a time frame of it’s official reveal.

Breach Review (XBLA)

Breach is a first person shooter developed by Atomic Games. It’s available on the XBLA for 1200 Microsoft points. The publisher provided us with a copy of the game for reviewing purposes.

There’s a moment ever-so-often in any shooter experience when know your enemy is behind a wall, and you’re at that wall, and there’s just one entrance. Death lies in the doorway, but victory lies beyond it, so what do you do? Well, if you’re playing Breach, you just blow up the whole darn wall! Breach brings total brick-by-brick destruction, active cover and authentic tactics all being played in 16 player team modes to the Xbox LIVE Arcade in a powerful way. Read More

Spare Parts Review (XBLA)

Spare Parts was developed by EA Bright Light and published by EA.  It was released on XBLA on January 19th for 800MS Points ($10).

Spare Parts is a casual action adventure game with minor puzzle elements that mostly surround the co-op aspects of the game.  You play as a robot, Mar-T, who is searching for stranded robotic allies and missing ship parts in order to escape the hostile environment where he’s shipwrecked.  It’s a basic concept that’s been done many times before.  Sadly, Spare Parts brings nothing new to the table and the gameplay is as generic as the title of the game.
