Indie developers Area Effect, founded by Ubisoft veteran Alexis Bacot, have announced that they are bringing new action-adventure RPG Izle to Xbox One. The game invites players to build their own world by summoning the power of the gods and terraforming a variety of procedurally generated islands, each one unique and filled with secrets. Of course with great power comes great responsibility and players will also need to defend their islands from the forces of shadows.
Xbox One gamers shouldn’t get excited just yet however, as Izle is still a long way off with Area Effect hoping to bring the game to the console sometime in 2016. A Kickstarter campaign to support the development of Izle will launch this spring, but as the game enters the alpha stage those curious enough can register to become part of an upcoming, closed alpha test on the official Izle website. Check out the new alpha trailer after the jump.

The traditional action-RPG experience and what is sacred to it is, for the most part, set in stone. The isometric camera, stat increases on level up, new skills, tons of loot with each miniscule bonus making one item infinitely more worthwhile than another, all of that good stuff. Games like Diablo and Torchlight embody that experience, and The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing endeavors to join the diagonally-skewed club. You play as the great Van Helsing’s son, Van Helsing, in a world overflowing with the occult surrounded by the marriage of science and magic that could be considered fantasy steam punk.
As a bit of a disclaimer, developer Neocore Games is still rather early in the development process, so our hands-on is of pre-alpha gameplay. In fact, not only did we have to use a keyboard and mouse to play, they still haven’t decided on how to map the controls to the controller. This puts a shimmering asterisk on all of our experience with it seeing as the way a game controls is of grievous importance. That said, what we experienced hinted at something solid and enjoyable, albeit at the moment not particularly unique.
NeocoreGames has released the first in-game screenshots of their upcoming action-RPG, The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing. Up until now we’ve just had a teaser trailer and some concept art to go on, but these screens finally give a glimpse of what the game will actually look like. Though the interface seen makes us think these may be from the PC version of the game, so that aspect could very well differ from the XBLA version. The game definitely looks like a fairly traditional isometric action-RPG, with a dark gothic styling.
The Incredible Adventures will follow the son of famed vampire hunter Van Helsing, who himself is also named Van Helsing, fancy that. It promises ” a tale wrought with wry humor and snappy dialogue” and “a larger-than-life hero possessing a dark yet romantic charm”. Of course that tells us nothing about the gameplay, luckily we checked it out at E3 and will be bringing you more details in our preview soon.
