Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure has some bizarre game footage

@lifelower was kind enough to send us a playlist of videos of some gameplay footage from the upcoming HD port of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure played at the San Diego Comic-Con. For those who haven’t heard, the game’s based on the popular manga/anime from Japan about a man who discovers supernatural powers and must find the origin of them. Pretty normal premise for a fighting game but it gets even wackier from there. From the above video, we see characters launching cutlery at their opponent. They launch into their “Stand” ability that makes a supernatural sentient-being help you in battle. Catch more videos after the jump and see if this game really is worth the 1600 MSP come August 22.

Interview: Skulls of the Shogun dev on asynchronous multiplayer and XBLA

It’s 30-minutes til the doors slam shut on day two of Rezzed; Brighton’s PC and indie games soiree featuring the likes of Gunpoint, Hotline Miami and, of course, Skulls of the Shogun. Hot stuff, but it’s no doubt to the chagrin of Borut Pfeifer – developer at 17-Bit – that I’ve asked him to describe Skulls in just 20 words at this late juncture.

“It’s turn-based strategy infused with the spirit of an action or arcade game. It’s fast, no grid, with multiplayer.”  Nailed.

Skulls of the Shogun marks 17-Bits’ attempt to haul the turn-based strategy shenanigans of something like Advance Wars (possibly the greatest game ever made) onto Xbox Live Arcade. No easy feat; the Xbox is without touch screen, without keyboard and mouse and about the only example I can think of turn-based strategy game built solely for XBLA is Band of Bugs. Gulp.

With that in mind, I chat with Borut about how Skulls has been tailored to XBLA, why 17-Bit chose the platform and, mostly, the intricacies of the recently announced asynchronous multiplayer. What’s an asynchronous multiplayer? Read on!

Microsoft has boosted Xbox Live security

By  •  News

Microsoft’s Xbox Live security team has spent the last several months introducing new safeguards to the service in response to a bevy of user feedback, Xbox Live General Manager Alex Garden said in a blog post today. Garden released a statement about buffing up account security earlier in the year and reported that the Xbox community responded by sending him “hundreds of emails and the responses ranged from frustration to support, as well as suggestions for making Xbox Live the best service it can be.”

The team in charge of protecting users is said to now be better positioned to do so thanks to increased notifications being sent to accounts with suspect activity. Holders of such accounts are encouraged to take self-protecting measures such as changing passwords, tapping Microsoft’s customer support and proving that they are indeed the owner of the account in question.

First gameplay trailer shows off more Naughty Bear carnage

To promote its upcoming Naughty Bear sequel, Panic in Paradise, developer 505 Games have released the first, very brief gameplay trailer, which depicts the titular character maiming, mauling and generally slaughtering his stuffed bear brethren (in the cutest way possible, of course). It’s the first, short glimpse at a follow-up to a game that was fairly poorly-received when it release – and thus a sequel that some consider puzzling at best.
