Flashback remake coming to XBLA

Flashback remake coming to XBLA

By  •  Media, Videos, News

It’s been 20 years since the Amiga/Sega Genesis/Mega Drive (and other platforms) hit Flashback, a cinematic platformer in which protagonist Conrad Hart must protect humanity from a shape shifting group of aliens. Woken and suffering from amnesia, he finds a recording from himself detailing the plot against humanity.

The story takes place in a futuristic setting and gameplay can be compared to Shadow Complex. Like that game, Flashback is powered by Unreal Engine 3. The original game was a best-selling, critically acclaimed game, and the remake looks to follow in its footsteps. Much of the original core team returns for the 2.5D remake, which as of yet has no release date or pricing. The original game’s sequel, Fade to Black, was equally compelling. Here’s hoping it gets the remake treatment as well. Hit the jump for concept art and the full press release .

Far Cry: Blood Dragon coming May 1

far_cry_3_blood_dragon

More details on the illusive Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon have been revealed. The release date of May 1 was originally outed by an Xbox.com listing, since removed. Several media outlets have since confirmed this date. IGN also posted the first 15 minutes of the game via their website. Not wanting to poach a great video, you can view it in its entirety at IGN.

The game itself is an homage to every cheesy 80’s action film and video game. Cutscenes are two dimensional and hand-drawn, the cyborg protagonist, Sargent Rex “Power” Colt, is the embodiment of all the bad video game box art from the decade, and there are more monotone robotic voices than you can count. No price has been confirmed, but we’re guessing this will be in the 1200 MSP range, and we can confirm that it does not require the retail version of Far Cry 3 to play. This is totally stand-alone, totally XBLA, and totally awesome. Hit the jump for additional screenshots.

Doritos Crash Course 2 coming soon to XBLA

crash_course_2_game_boxart

After quietly appearing in February on a Xbox Marketplace listing, Microsoft has officially announced Doritos Crash Course 2 from Behaviour Interactive, the follow up to 2010’s popular advergame by the same name. In the sequel,  “run, jump, slide and wall jump your Avatar through four new worlds of irreverent obstacles, traps and pitfalls.” As players make their way through the course, they will compete for the best completion times and collect stars to unlock further progress. While no online multiplayer is mentioned, a player can “compare your best time against up to three asynchronous games clips of your friends.”

Like the first game, Crash Course 2 will be free to play, but this time around gamers will have the option to buy coins, giving them the ability to “unlock new courses, power-ups and vanity items.” While no exact release date has been announced, the game will hit virtual shelves this year. In the mean time, hit the jump to make your way through this obstacle course of screenshots.

bitComposer releases new Thunder Wolves screens

Thunder Wolves Logo

Fresh screenshots have surfaced for bitComposer’s upcoming arcade-style attack-chopper game, Thunder Wolves. Developed by Hungarian studio Most Wanted Entertainment, Thunder Wolves was originally scheduled to release within the Q1 window, although it was recently bumped to Q2 as we reported earlier in the month.

No new details have been released along with these latest screens. However, so far it’s known that Thunder Wolves allows players to assume control of nine different helicopters with different weaponry and abilities. According to its official website, the game features 13 missions that take place in four different regions with destructible environments. Its missions will vary from “stealth and escort-based objectives to all-out seek and destroy.” No online-multiplayer functionality has been announced, although bitComposer has confirmed that Thunder Wolves will feature a local co-op mode at the very least.
