Telltale Games is finally spreading the infectious details of their episodic horror/adventure series based on the popular comic book and television show, The Walking Dead. In episode one of the game, players will step into the shoes of a character new to the franchise during the initial outbreak and the fall of Atlanta. While Telltale has been shy thus far to discuss gameplay details, the developers are not shy in letting it be known that story will take the center stage. The development team is aiming to force players to feel the emotion of what’s going on around them, and to connect to what the characters are going through. Anyone who reads The Walking Dead comics knows that this is no normal zombie fair. Speaking of the comics, fans of The Walking Dead comics and/or television show will be happy to know that several familiar faces will be making appearances in the game. Perhaps even more exciting is the fact that series creator Robert Kirkman is guiding Telltale in the development of the game, which is also being penned by Book of Eli writer Gary Whitta.
Those seeking more gritty details should check out the thirteen minute “Playing Dead” clip above. In addition to video, Telltale has also released the first three in-game screenshots of The Walking Dead in action. To view the screens, simply click the link below. While you can certainly count on plenty more coverage of the game in the near future, start making your plans for the zombie apocalypse now; The first episode of The Walking Dead is scheduled to hit Xbox Live Arcade this spring.

It’s a bumper episode this week, with one of our longest ever. We kick it off by talking about last week’s release of Shank 2, which we pretty much universally enjoyed. Be sure to check out our character unlock guide if you decide to pick it up. Speaking of guides, after spending a lot of time with Rise of the Martian bear for the guide, Todd isn’t keen to play it again any time soon.
After discussing some of the other random games we’ve been playing Perry brings the news. Which includes some Kickstarter discussion and debate about Gotham City Impostors approach to DLC. Then Andrew poses @MizzouGaming‘s twitter question to us, which leads to a long discussion about our thoughts on the past and future of XBLA. He then challenges us all to play Assault Heroes, so check it out and let us know what you think on twitter or the comments.

Shank 2 was developed by Klei Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. It was released February 8, 2012 for 800 MSP. A copy was provided for review purposes.
In 2010, the original Shank was released under a curious industry eye. Side scrolling brawlers are a well-worn genre, but for some reason Klei Entertainment had piqued the interest of the XBLA community. Shank was fairly well received, but stumbled in areas where it counts most, mainly in gameplay. The aptly named main character, Shank, traverses shipyards, jungles, and ancient ruins in search of his enemies, in hopes that killing them will ensure the safety of the people that are important to him. He slices, dices, and shreds enemies to bits with many different types of weapons and kills them in the goriest of ways possible. It seems Klei has upped the ante with this sequel, but does it deliver?

Jordan Mechner, the man who made the original Prince of Persia back in 1989, is returning to game development to remake another of his classics, Karateka. Venture Beat reports that Mechner plans to release the game later this year on XBLA and PSN. The original was developed as “a labor of love” on an Apple II and released in 1984.
“It is amazing to me how many people still remember Karateka and talk about it after all these years,” Mechner told Venture Beat. “Somehow, the 1980s seem to be in the air again. People ask me about Karateka on my website all the time, and I keep seeing videos and retrospectives of the original game posted online. I was astonished when I was in Moscow at a press conference for the Prince of Persia movie opening in 2010, and Russian journalists asked questions about Karateka.”
