Earlier this month, the folks behind the Xbox Live Indie Games Winter Uprising went at it again with their announcement of a Summer version of their promotion. After plenty of submissions and subsequent determination, eight titles have been chosen to represent the best of what XBLIG has to offer. T.E.C. 3001, Speedrunner HD, Raventhorne, Take Arms, Train Frontier Express, Cute Things Dying Violently, Doom and Destiny and Battle High: San Bruno comprise the initial lineup and two more titles will complete the list after a community vote in early August. Stay tuned to the official website on August 1, 2011 when the voting starts and August 22 when the everything kicks off.

Certain Affinity’s upcoming Xbox Live Arcade game Crimson Alliance has been a little scant on details, but they recently released a set of screenshots to give a little insight into the feel of the gameplay. The game is oft compared to action-RPGs like Diablo, but offers progression through loot rather than stats. The studio has previously worked on games like Call of Duty and is currently helping 343 Industries in their development of Halo CE, so they promise to leverage some of their action-heavy sensibilities into a promising new XBLA title in a well tread genre. Undoubtedly, Crimson Alliance will see the most attention in reference to its offer as a bonus to anyone who buys all of 2011’s Summer of Arcade titles. Check out the screens after the jump.
The creators of Just Cause 2 just released new screenshots for their upcoming Xbox Live Arcade title, Renegade Ops. Using the same engine as the aforementioned game, Avalanche hopes to update the genre of vehicular, arcade-like combat much like Shadow Complex built upon the framework of Metroid-style games in a modern context. Renegade Ops is slated to hit this fall on XBLA, so check out the screenshots after the jump to get a sneak peek.
Every quarter, Metacritic reports on the top 25 games of each platform as dictated by their Metascore system. They also compile a list of the best rated games of the year thus far, noting the new entries in updates subsequent to the first. These last three months have been a real boon to the Xbox Live Arcade platform, with a solid showing of five new titles and nine total titles out of the full list of 25 for the Xbox 360 on the whole. These numbers prove yet again that XBLA games are not only great games in their own right, but compete with retail games handily in a measure of quality.
