Team Cherry, the developer behind the popular game, Hollow Knight, announced on February 14th that the long-planned DLC that would add the character, Hornet, to the game as playable has instead been developed as a full-blown, stand-alone game. It does not have a set release date yet, but has been announced to be available at launch on Windows, Mac and the Nintendo Switch. The team is hopeful to include both Xbox and PS4 versions but cannot, at this time, confirm whether they will be available at the launch.

Hollow Knight: Silksong takes place in a new kingdom with a familiar character, Hornet. Hornet appears several times in Hollow Knight as a character to advance the story and as a boss fight. Her controls in Silksong will be similar to those of the original Hollow Knight game, but Hornet’s repertoire of attacks is new and her movements are more fluid and light. Those who backed their Kickstarter campaign back in 2014 might recall that there was a stretch goal for a second playable character to be included. Because this second playable character morphed into an entire sequel, Team Cherry is rewarding their backers with a free code for Silksong on Windows, Mac or Switch. A true testament to the passion and hard work that indie developers like Team Cherry put into their games: a small DLC can turn into a full game. In case you missed the original Hollow Knight game, it is available on Xbox One for $14.99. Our own Jonathon P. called the game a “Must Buy” citing it as an “immediate classic.” Get a quick taste of the gameplay below.
