Which game let you equip fairy wings, a viking helmet, tighty whities, and a flamethrower? No it’s not Gotham City Impostors (next DLC pack perhaps?) but upcoming 4-player co-op, run-n’-gun action shooter Shoot Many Robots. Demiurge Studios have released a new gameplay trailer today, highlighting the game’s light RPG aspects and fun customisations. They’ve also revealed that there will be hundreds (and hundreds) of guns and gear for you to find, and that you can tailor the gear you wear to your play style. For example, if you want to play as a tank class, just equip gear with health boosts and grab a huge gun or if you prefer a stealthier approach then get a sniper rifle, a jetpack and pick off robots from the distance. Or you can just play as a crazy person wearing fishnet tights and a powdered wig…the choice is yours.

Shoot Many Robots blasts it’s way onto XBLA on March 14 for 800 MSP. Check out some new screen shots after the jump.

Weekend Rant is a non-regularly occurring weekend mini-editorial. In layman’s terms that basically means that if a staff member has something they want to rant about they can do so on any given weekend.

There’s a list of disturbing trends that have developed within the gaming industry this generation, and they revolve around cooperative play. Co-op is nothing new to gaming. It has existed since the earliest days of coin-op arcade machines going back decades. This generation however, co-op has evolved. No longer do we just get to tread through a game’s campaign with a friend, sometimes we get an entire stand alone co-op campaign. In other instances, we get completely unique cooperative modes with their own setup and rules like the highly successful Horde mode in Gears of War, or Zombie mode in Call of Duty. More than ever, developers are taking advantage of the fact that its just plain fun to play games with your friends. The evolution of co-op has also unfortunately created problems. And its about time we start talking about them.

With no hint of when Moon Diver will drop onto our consoles other than sometime in 2011 (the sooner the better), we are teased with more screenshots and character art. Feelplus inc. and Strider director Kouichi Yotsui are creating what looks to be a fast paced co-op action sidescroller in the vein of classics such as the aforementioned Strider and Ninja Gaiden. Microbot is a twin stick shooter that lets the player battle malicious viruses and diseases as a microscopic nanotech robot injected into someone’s bloodstream. As players travel travel through veins, bones, lungs and other organs, they can collected data fragments that allows them to customize their microbot with powerful weapons, defensive systems, movement parts, and special abilities. What got yours truly’s blood pumping about this title, is the planned cooperative drop-in/drop-out mode.
