It’s no secret we’ve been big supporters of Tony Hawks Pro Skater HD. In fact, it hit our XBLA’s Most Wanted well before it was announced. We awarded Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD in our Best of E3 highlighting the nostalgic feelings that made us wish we were back in school playing with a bunch of friends. But the game has more going for it than just fond memories, Robomodo has taken the pieces that fans loved from the original two games and rebuilt them from the ground up in a way that shreds even our most nostalgic expectations. The game looks and plays better than we remembered.
A long time ago, in a news post far, far away, Rovio announced that Angry Birds would be heading to XBLA. We thought that was all forgotten about and …

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD has recently been announced to be one of this year’s Summer of Arcade games, and is currently playable on the E3 showfloor. Footage has emerged of the show’s demo, and even though it’s a cam we can see how true the game sticks to its gameplay roots. These short videos show some neat tricks, long grinds, big air, and a poor player who messes up simple jumps and balancing acts. Look forward to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD when it releases this summer, possibly July 11.
A marketplace listing for the upcoming release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD has been spotted and reveals a release date of July 11. Whilst these marketplace listings are …

When we started XBLA’s Most Wanted back in February of 2011 we did so more for fun. It was, in our minds, a pipe dream to actually think some of these games would be hitting Xbox Live Arcade. Yet over the past year we’ve seen both announcements and releases that directly correlate with some of the games on our most wanted list. Now to be fair we realize that we’re just one site, but at the same time we know that developers and publishers look out on the web for what the fans want. We like to think we’re a little part of that. Here are some examples that make us think XBLA’s Most Wanted is successful:
Recreating a classic game is never an easy feat. No matter what approach the developer takes, there always seems to be some group of detractors complaining either that not enough or too much was changed. That means that — despite the abundance of remakes that are green lit each year — recreating something that was once popular is hardly a surefire path to sales success, so it’s not surprising that Robomodo hit some pushback from Activision when they first discussed the idea of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD.
“To be honest, Josh (Tsui, president of Robomodo) and I pushed Activision to do it repeatedly until we laid it out that this can happen, in this timeframe, for this cost. It was a long battle,” Tony Hawk explained to GamesIndustry International in a recent interview.
The major concern that the world’s biggest third party publisher had was that the development costs for such an undertaking would be higher than what could be recuperated through sales. Hawk understood Activision’s trepidation, but neither he nor the team at Robomodo were about to let that stop them. “We knew that once people saw it in this light it would get the attention it needed,” Hawk said.
Last summer, skateboarding legend Tony Hawk made use of Twitter to call upon fans of his videogame series to vote in their top 10 favorite maps from the series. Fans happily obliged, but Hawk was dismayed when his own fave, Downhill Jam, failed to make the cut. One of the advantages of being Tony Hawk, however, is that people tend to listen when you talk. Since the titular skater is such a mega-fan of the stage, Josh Tsui, co-founder of developer Robomodo, says the team decided to toss it into Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD despite it not cracking into the fan list.
Speaking at San Francisco’s Game Developers Conference, Tsui said that Hawk has remained “very involved” in the development process of the game. He’s also remains a big fan of his own games, and was seen playing the newest title while fielding questions during yesterday’s press event. It wasn’t just for sure either, as he appeared to be one of the best players of the day. Basically, the man has no shortage of clout when it comes to his licensed video game franchise.
As for the game itself, Hawk’s favorite map will join Warehouse, Mall, the Hanger, School II, Venice Beach and Marseilles as the stages in the HD remix, Tsui told you GDC man on the scene, John Laster. In addition, Joystiq has reported that Pro Skater HD could potentially receive some maps from the third and fourth games in the series as DLC. “The dream of doing this is we can throw levels from 3 and 4 and make them downloadable in this,” Hawk told them.
Gamers who appreciate a good skating game have already gotten a peek at some Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD screenshots. However it can sometimes be hard to properly …
