We Happy Few is the latest videogame to get it’s own movie. The game, which is currently available through the Xbox One Game Preview Program, caught the eye of transmedia production company dj2 Entertainment. Partnering with Gold Circle Films, the company approached the game’s developer, Compulsion Games, with a vision to bring the story to the big screen.
Guillaume Provost, head of the Compulsion Games, said of the move, “Dmitri, Stephan and Dan (dj2) approached us enthusiastically and with really solid ideas about how to adapt our game to film, while retaining its menace, dark humor, and central themes. We’re gratified at how they and Gold Circle have taken to the project.”
We Happy Few is a roguelike, survival RPG, set in an isolated English town in an “alternate 1960s”. Citizens must wear government-imposed, drug-induced happiness masks, that is until one resident decides to become free of the drug’s effects, risking his life to learn why his home is a bizarre open-air prison.
