The next Minecraft update may still be weeks away, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get excited for it. 4J Studios has been hard at work building the update, and they’ve let out a few screenshots showing off some of the most anticipated new features. Look closely and you’ll see a mine shaft, spiderwebs, melons, silverfish, the hunger bar, and endermen. As if all that wasn’t enough, the update still has plenty more to offer, including creative mode.
If you like dressing up your avatar as much as you like Minecraft, you’re in luck. A new batch of themed avatar items are on their way, including the sheep and shears avatar prop shown above. The shearing animation is great, although you’ll never see Minecraft‘s Steve struggle that much. There is currently no release date or price for the item.
The next big update for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, dubbed the “Adventure” update, adds NPCs, villages, strongholds and abandoned mineshafts…but not this week (or the next, most likely). There’s still a good deal to work on, it seems – and of course there’s testing to follow after that; it could be a bit of a wait.

The reveal of Minecraft‘s second skin pack means the return of revealing sets of skins five at a time. While 4J’s Minecraft skins have always been good, the skins revealed today may be the greatest, most XBLA-friendly ones yet. The newest skins are all characters from indie games: Skulls of the Shogun‘s General Akamoto, Super Meat Boy, Spelunky, Cobalt Agent from the Mojang-published PC game Cobalt, and The Player from Retro City Rampage. Skin Pack 2 will feature 45 skins and is expected to cost 160MSP, akin to Skin Pack 1. More skins will be announced in the coming weeks.
Weekly Roundup compiles all the biggest news stories, reviews, and releases from the week into one handy post on the weekends.
Microsoft have announced that more skins are on the way for best seller Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition and whilst there have been no release dates given, Microsoft have revealed on their PlayXBLA blog that they’ll be adding a whopping 45 skins. So far, the pack is set to include Agent Level 5 from Crackdown 2, Joanna Dark of Perfect Dark fame, Damon Baird from GoW: judgement, Pretztail skin from they ever lovable Viva Pinata, and Left4Dead‘s Bill. Valve had already announced a Left4Dead themed skin pack containing all 8 survivors from the 2 games, but it’s unclear whether this is a separate pack or whether they’ll all be bundled in Skin Pack 2.
Minecraft’s first Skin Pack for the XBLA version was released last month for a mere 160 MSP and also contained 45 skins, so we’ll be hoping for a similar price point on this one. PlayXBLA have promised to reveal more of the new skins over the coming weeks, but why not take a guess at what might be included in the comments below.
