Yacht Club Games, the developer behind Shovel Knight, took to the stage last night at The Game Awards to unveil the next entry in the series, Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment. It is due out in Spring 2017 and the game, while a continuation of the first game, will actually be a prequel. Players will gain control of the dastardly Specter Knight as they work to establish the Order of No Quarter, who were the primary antagonists of the first game.
All that is really known about the game was seen in a minute long trailer which can be seen below. It does maintain the style that the first game was known for but outside of the art style and the little bit of story insight nothing else is known about the game. The Specter of Torment will be available as a free update similar to how all new content has been handled so far by Yacht Club Games.
