Super Sequence 2 review (XBLIG)

Super Sequence 2 was released by DanDySoft Games and retails for 80MSP. A copy of the game was provided by the developer for review purposes.

Super Sequence 2 is a simple game with simple and effective execution. It’s a memory game that challenges you to remember increasingly long sequences of button presses, similar to the old Simon electronic game. There’s a visual cue on screen and a specific tone for each specific button press to help you remember the sequence. It’s a brain exercise for sure, and likely to make you feel rather stupid too. But despite the solid execution of the base premise, it is still just a game about pressing sequences of buttons.

XBLA’s Most Wanted: The Simpsons Arcade

The Simpsons has been on the air for 486 episodes in 22 seasons and the show shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. But in the classic years of The Simpsons, just before Bart faced Space Mutants on the NES, we got the classic arcade game we called The Simpsons Arcade Game. It was a side-scrolling beat-em ‘up where Mr. Burns and Smithers steal a diamond and when they run into The Simpsons, the diamond falls into Maggie’s mouth leading Smithers and Burns to kidnap Maggie. The Simpsons must rescue Maggie by beating up everyone who stands in their way. With the classic X-Men game on XBLA, surely this could lead to further old Konami arcade games to come there too.

Housemarque Interview

Developer Housemarque’s Outland has been on XBLA for only a few weeks but has already claimed its place as one of the service’s best games.  We recently interviewed the game’s Lead Designer Aki Raula, so strap yourself in, choose between light and darkness and be sure to dodge those pesky bullet-hell, um, bullets.

XBLAFans: So, Outland has been released and has received glowing reviews. How does that feel?

Raula: It feels like our hard work has been noticed and people appreciate it. We are very happy of the spectacular reception for Outland – it is, and continues to be, beyond our expectations. As a small studio we also hope the review success translates to sales so that we can keep on making great games!

The next iteration of Duels of the Planeswalkers, dubbed Duels 2012, will see significant improvements over its 2009 predecessor. The most significant change was officially announced yesterday on the game’s community boards, thanks to a post from Community Manager WotC_Microbless, who confirmed that the new game would have the ability to remove cards from the core 60 card deck and replace them with cards unlocked as rewards for playing the game. As a result, players will be able to customize their decks in new and exciting ways.
