In a recent conversation with Official Xbox Magazine, Unity CEO David Helgason discussed a collaborative partnership between Unity and Microsoft, providing Unity support for the Xbox One. This, Helgason says, will allow developers to much more easily port their Unity games on the Xbox 360 and other platforms to the Xbox One, as well as provide access to a number of advanced tools and shaders on the more powerful systems. Xbox One Unity toolkits will be widely available to developers sometime in 2014.

Microsoft is also making Unity tools freely accessible for all Xbox One developers. This, when combined with its recent self-publishing announcements, could make significant in-roads with the independent development community. Further, and most importantly, Helgason indicates the agreement with Microsoft also extends to Windows Phone and PC, with free exports to the Windows store.
