Back in April, we lamented the top ten games we wish were on Xbox Live Arcade. Well, welcome… to die! Konami has heard our prayers and announced that our favorite 1992 side-scrolling beat-em-up is headed to XBLA.

The announcement came as part of Marvel’s videogame panel at this weekend’s New York Comic Con. There is not yet information regarding release date or price, but Marvel did indicate that the game would have drop-in online multiplayer for up to six players, custom match-ups, and variable difficulty. Local multiplayer seems inevitable, but is not yet announced. You can get a glimpse of the shiny HD gameplay in this trailer…

Neither Marvel nor Konami has confirmed the playable characters yet, but we’re assuming that the XBLA version (and the PSN version) will be true ports. That means we expect to see the same six characters that were featured in the original: Cyclops, Colossus, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, and Dazzler. Each character had a special mutant ability that could be used with a health penalty or when your health had dropped low enough. Like Optic Blast!

I spent many a quarter playing as my childhood crush, Cyclops. I thought he was hot in the comics and even hotter on the arcade cabinet. Of course, I realize now I should have spent those hours as Nightcrawler, but there’s not much you can do about young love. Who was your favorite playable mutant?
