All things considered, Mark of the Ninja was a pretty great stealth action game. It was chock-full of inventive, fun (if occasionally repetitive) gameplay and came with a unique graphical style that helped it stand out visually from the riff-raff. In a strong year for great XBLA titles, Mark of the Ninja goes toe-to-toe with some of the best.

This week, GiantBomb revealed the original pitch video Klei Entertainment put together to sell Microsoft on publishing the stealthy, stabby adventure. What’s interesting to note is that the video looks very similar to the final gameplay – there are certainly some differences, but it appears as though Klei’s core vision for the game remained consistent throughout the development process. According to GiantBomb’s report, game designer Nels Anderson said the original demo was just a video, containing no gameplay whatsoever (it was made entirely in Flash); the heart of the game, however, was there from the beginning. “Obviously, none of the visual perception stuff is in there, but otherwise, it kind of feels like the game,” says Anderson. “It’s a little more brawler-y maybe, but it’s not that far off.”

Mark of the Ninja is available now on the XBLA Marketplace for 1200 MSP.
