Telltale Games recently released the first trailer for The Wolf Among Us, a new adventure game based on the comic book series Fables, originally written by Bill Willingham. Given Telltale’s success with The Walking Dead franchise, this is a release everyone should look forward to playing through.  Fables has won numerous awards, including a dozen Eisner Awards, Best New Series, and an award to Willingham for Best Author. The franchise imagines that “characters like Snow White, The Big Bad Wolf and Pinocchio from the world’s most beloved storybooks are real – real, and living among us, with all of their powers intact.”

The press release describes The Wolf Among Us as a prequel to the Fables comic book series. Players will take on the role of Bigby Wolf, who was once called The Big Bad Wolf. Now as “the sheriff of a hidden community in New York City, exiled from the land of fairy tales, tasked by the bureaucrat Snow White to keep order within a society of mythical creatures and characters trying to remain undetected in the world of the mundane.” The game explores mythological creatures trying to make it in New York, including a member of the Three Little Pigs.

The game itself will be revealed to the public for the first time at PAX Prime at the end of the month. Telltale proved that they can communicate a strong, compelling narrative through games with The Walking Dead — it will be interesting to see how their take on Fables differs from their previous work with established media franchises.
