The Wolf Among Us announced as Telltale’s take on “Fables”
Telltale Games’ previously teased episodic title based on DC Comics’ Fables series has been officially announced as The Wolf Among Us. Fables centers around the many characters of fairy tale and folklore, who’ve been pushed from their homeland by “The Adversary” and secretly taken up residence within New York City. The series carries a more mature ton than the fanciful stories it’s based upon, often reinterpreting characters and placing them in darker situations.
“Developing The Wolf Among Us based on the Fables universe has allowed our studio to build upon all of the hallmarks of what makes our episodic series so engaging for players,” Telltale CEO Dan Connors told IGN. “Through an evolution of our approach to choice and consequence, we can further explore the complexity of each and every iconic character in a universe rich with untold history from the darkest sides of the storybooks.”
The game will purportedly take place before the events of the series and follow the reformed Big Bad Wolf — who’s gained the ability to take human form, referring to himself as “Bigby” — as sheriff of Fabletown, striving to keep the other inhabitants hidden from the world-at-large.
The Wolf Among Us is expected to release this summer for Xbox 360 though there’s no official word as to whether it will receive the orange banner of XBLA. However, based on Telltale’s digital-phenom The Walking Dead and it’s success on the platform, it seems likely.
