Rocket League, which is due out on Xbox One Wednesday, currently pits teams as big as four players apiece against each other in vehicular soccer matches. Speaking with Major Nelson, however, Psyonix VP of Marketing & Communications Jeremy Dunham said the developer would consider upping that max player count of eight, but only if it first released larger stadiums to accommodate the extra vehicles.

“We experimented with larger player counts but it’s too crazy,” Dunham said on Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb’s podcast this past Friday.

“Maybe one day we’ll revisit it if we ever decide to go with bigger stadiums,” he added. “But for now, more than 4v4 we think takes a little bit away from the enjoyment of the game. It gets a little too crazy.”

Continuing, Dunham referred to three versus three as Rocket League‘s current “sweet spot.”
