Before Call of Duty and Battlefield 3, there were two games that revolutionized first person shooters. These games were Quake and Unreal Tournament. If you have ever played and love either of these games, a relatively new company IllFonic is sure to give you a blast from the past. The company, founded in 2007, is set to release their new arena first person shooter Nexuiz next month as a part of Microsoft’s XBLA House Party promotion. More info and screens after the break.

Nexuiz uses Alientrap Software’s Nexuiz to bring “new Victorian influenced art style that is simultaneously futuristic and sophisticated” to next-gen gaming consoles. The game is powered by Cytek’s CryENGINE 3 (Crysis and Crysis 2) and will be published by THQ. Nexuiz was playable at this year’s CES and features “fast paced and competitive gameplay”.

The storyline of the game features two races, the Kavussari and the Forsellians who have been embattled for centuries. The two races eventually entered into the Herald Accord, a “union between different cultures in the galaxy”. However, some hostilities still remained and the Nexuiz was formed to be “a series of battle arenas on the home planets of the Kavussari, Forsellians, and the ruined planet of Atavirta”. The playable game modes on the CES floor were 4-on-4 team deathmatch and 4-on-4 capture the flag.

Nexuiz will be released on XBLA next month for 800 MSP. You can view the launch trailer below.
