State of Decay Zombies

In a post on Undead Labs’ official site, Geoffrey discusses new details about how State of Decay‘s Sandbox Mode may operate. He describes the team’s core, guiding philosophy in crafting the zombie apocalypse survival experience, noting there is a key difference between State of Decay and other zombie games. In other games, the player is merely tasked with surviving a zombie attack; in State of Decay, however, the player must try to survive the zombie apocalypse.

He explains that in order to survive the apocalypse–that is, to survive long enough to begin rebuilding society, the player must scavenge every building for supplies like food, medicine, ammunition, and fuel. However, in a post-apocalyptic setting, where manufacturing has ceased, and goods are neither created nor delivered, each resource is extremely limited. Towns will inevitably be stripped clean, forcing the characters to move onto a new area, to face new dangers as they attempt to secure a new home and replenish their stocks.

That is the gameplay hook Undead Labs intends to use in order to push the sandbox simulation forward, and will be revealing new details regarding additional Achievements, unlockables, and Leaderboards in an upcoming article.
