It’s getting pretty crowded on the Guardians of Middle-earth roster. Over the last few months, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Monolith Productions have released a steady stream of information regarding the characters you can expect to employ when Guardians of Middle-earth lands on Xbox Live Arcade next Wednesday, December 5. This week is no different, as we’re introduced to two new guardians who’ll lend their abilities to the team-based arena battler.

Haldir, the dexterous and deadly elven striker, uses his speed and ranged prowess to lay down punishing fire. In a pinch, Haldir can teleport to a desired location, stunning enemies with his next shot before finishing them off with devastating special attacks from a distance. Lugbol, on the other hand, uses his summoned wolves to soak up damage and taunt his enemies. The undead goblin, possessed by an evil entity, then utilizes his dark mastery of fire and lightning to visit utter destruction on his victims. See both guardians in action in the Battle Profile video below.

In related news, the Xbox Live Avatar Store is getting its own dose of Tolkien-branded fantasy as Guardians of Middle-earth-inspired gear goes up for sale. Now’s the chance to deck out your avatar in costumes ranging from The Witch-king to Gollum, from Gandalf to the Dark Lord himself (Sauron) and even Bilbo Baggins from the upcoming film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. If costumes aren’t your thing, fulfill that deep-seated fantasy of patting a Balrog on the head — while shouting, “You shall not pass,” as matter-of-factly as possible — with your very own miniature pet(slave) or pick up a tiny Fell Beast for an arm-perch accessory.

Finally, the Guardians of Middle-earth Facebook page is hosting a sweepstakes for your chance to win a life-size statue of Gandalf. Just how life-size is a life-size statue of Gandalf? Well, Sir Ian McKellen, the actor who portrays Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings, stands approximately 5’11” or 180 centimeters, so either way you look at it, that’s a lot of Gandalf. Unfortunately, the sweepstakes is for US residents only and you must be 13-years-old to be eligible, but you can check out the official rules for all the legal details — the contest runs until Monday, December 3.
