You might know Haunted Temple Studios as the developer of the upcoming action-strategy game Skulls of the Shogun, but you won’t see that name attached when the game is released. The developer has announced a name change to something more short and succinct with 17-Bit, complete with the above retro logo. The change comes with the studio’s commitment to preserving classic gameplay ethics with modern technology to enhance them for the modern era. Jake Kazdal, CEO and Creative Director summed it up best with this quote:

“It’s 16-bit, plus a bit more, when we test-drove the 17-BIT name and logo at PAX East, people instantly got it. It reached the point where people kept stopping us on the show floor and asking where they could get our t-shirts. The new name sums up our goal perfectly — taking your best memories of the 16-bit era, and making new experiences that look as good and play as well as you remember.”

The logo was also created by Seattle/Toronto artist Cory Schmitz. If you want to learn more about Skulls of the Shogun, we have an excellent preview Nick Santangelo wrote from PAX East. The game currently has no release date or price point.
