The Five Nights at Freddy’s games will be getting console remakes, creator Scott Cawthon revealed over the weekend during a Steam forum conversation with fans.

Responding to a question about the likelihood of the horror games being ported to consoles, Cawthon enthusiastically responded, “Actually, yes! It will happen. I’m talking with a few companies who are interested in doing console remakes of the original games.”

Why would he be remaking the games completely with external help rather than just porting them? Destructoid reports that the series’ engine, Clickteam Fusion, is a bit restrictive as to what platforms it can run on. A 2015 discussion between Clickteam Fusion developers appears to confirm that the engine is not capable of exporting PC games to Xbox One or PS4 on its own.

In saying it’s “the original games” that will be remade, Cawthon is presumably referring to the four point-and-click adventure titles that released between 2010 and 2015 but not Five Nights at Freddy’s World, a spinoff RPG that was first made available this past January. While the point-and-click games were generally positively received, Five Nights at Freddy’s World was pulled from sale on Steam after Cawthon admitted to rushing the release. He later re-released an updated version for free on distribution platform Game Jolt.

XBLA Fans has reached out to Cawthon to inquire as to which consoles will be receiving the remakes and to confirm whether or not our presumption that it is the first four games being remade is correct. We’ll update this story should a response be issued.
