Double Fine seeks to reclaim distribution rights from THQ
Two months after the tragic collapse of long-time publisher THQ, we’re still watching the dust settle. In the mix is Double Fine, whose priority is not letting its hard work developing a pair of games go to waste by securing Costume Quest and Stacking, games which were published on XBLA by THQ.
In a report by Polygon, Justin Bailey from Double Fine explained that while the indie studio does own the intellectual property rights to these games, it does not have the rights to distribute them on XBLA. Far from desperate, he commented, “We are optimistic about regaining these distribution rights, as this process has already demonstrated that when there are parties interested in specific assets, those assets are worth more when sold separately.”
Here’s to hoping Double Fine can nail down the details and secure its games.
