The creator of the mega hit game, Minecraft, will be receiving a “Pioneer” award next month at the Game Developers Choice Awards. Markus “Notch” Persson will receive the award that is given to those who create “breakthrough tech and game design.”
This isn’t the first time he has won a Game Developers Choice Award, back in 2011 he won multiple awards for Minecraft at GDC. Persson left, Minecraft developer Mojang back in 2014 when Microsoft acquired the company for $2.5 billion. Persson who owned a large share of the company came away with a good sum of money from the deal.
Other notable recipients of the “Pioneer” award have been Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki, Valve’s Gabe Newell, Elite designer David Braben, and Riot Games Brandon Beck and Mark Merrill. The Game Developers Choice Awards take place March 16, in San Francisco.
