EA Sports released a roster update for NBA Jam: On Fire Edition this past Thursday. While much of it seems to be shifts in player teams, there might have been a new player in there that we missed. Operation Sports was kind enough to post a video of the most recent roster update on their YouTube channel which outlines the changes.
This update is the first since April 2012, which added 14 new players to the game’s lineup. Prior to that an update was made in January 2012 which traded/added/dropped a number of players. Both of those roster updates can be found after the break, but we don’t have any details on the newest update aside from Operation Sports’ video.
To download the update simply boot NBA Jam and head to the Online Arena section. The game will then begin the download.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD is a bit of a mixed bag. For the casual player it provides nostalgia with enhanced visuals. The bugs seem minor. For the hardcore it leaves feelings of imprecision in control, and the in-game glitches become like a giant white headed pimple–no matter how much you try to look away it steals your focus. The community and media at large are torn on whether the game is amazing or abysmal. The Revert Pack DLC is more of the same. In the end it comes down to whether you enjoy the core game or hate it. That being said, let’s keep this short and not beat around the bush.
Here’s what we liked:
More to love – For fans of the game the Revert Pack is a must buy. The three greatest levels from Pro Skater 3 (Canada, L.A., and Airport) along with one new music track, Metallica’s “All Nightmare Long”. Also included are four new skaters: pros Steve Caballero and Geoff Rawley and Metallica members James Hetfield and Robert Trujillo. The four new skaters provide decent balance in the game’s starting selection, and the levels are faithfully recreated. The Metallica track is, well, Metallica. You’ll either love it or hate it.
Oh man, we love us some 360 controllers. They fit any size hands, unlike the Sony controllers, and despite the less-than-stellar stock d-pad they’re a dream to use. But it’s not just about functionality, it’s about collectability. And with 33 official Microsoft controllers to hunt down there’s no shortage of game for the hunter.
But some controllers may only interest you from an aesthetic standpoint, and so in addition to a rarity rating for each controller we’ve also listed an availability level for replacement parts should you want to transform your existing controllers. So instead of buying an all new controller you can give that nasty, sticky-buttoned gamepad new life and a wicked shell. When searching for custom shell parts remember to stick with vendors that have high reputability or high eBay ratings. There are a lot of cheap knockoffs that look the same in a picture but fit poorly. As per our recent review, we recommend Quickdrawmods if you’re looking for shells that have a Low or above availability rating. Past that go for eBay sellers with high ratings (both in percentage and number of ratings). Also be sure to pick up a Torx T8 security bit screwdriver from whoever you buy your first shell from. It’s invaluable, and they’re usually dirt cheap.
So without further ado we present the 32 Microsoft produced 360 controllers: row by row, left to right.
UPDATE: Added a missing controller to bottom right of the above, along with a description below.
Pinball gurus Zen Studios have released the Zen Classics downloadable content for Pinball FX 2. The pack contains four tables previously for Zen’s PlayStation 3 pinball counterpart, Zen Pinball: El Dorado, Shaman, Tesla and V12. For table collectors this now allows players to have access to every table from Zen Pinball sans the Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 tribute table, which we’re unlikely to get as the game is a PlayStation 3 exclusive. The pack is available now for 800 MSP. TechGamingVideo posted a comparison video which depicts the differences between the Zen Pinball and remastered Pinball FX 2 versions. Look for it after the jump.
The line between gaming console and media center continues to thin. In the past few years Xbox 360 owners have received new multimedia applications to extend the usability of their console. While most are specialized media players, others like Hulu and Netflix, have a much broader range of media to play. Some applications such as Internet Explorer provide more than just the standard ‘play your favorites’ functionality. And as that line continues to thin we’ll continue to see a plethora of new apps come to the dashboard. Yesterday Xbox Live’s Major Nelson announced 43 apps slated for Spring 2013. Availability of these apps range by region, but include names such as ChrunchyRoll, GameTrailers and MTV. No word yet on whether MTV will simply be a vehicle for more Jersey Shore or whether it’ll actually play music videos, but we’re not holding our breath. See the full list after the break.

The transforming d-pad conversions are available exclusively at QuickdrawMods.com, and are available in three variants. Consumers can receive a full replacement shell with transforming d-pad for USD $26.99, get just the top and transforming d-pad for $19.99, or send in their controller for modification for $18.98. Conversions were provided for review purposes.
It’s no secret that amidst the great elements that together make the Xbox 360 controller there’s one gaping flaw. It’s a flaw that all the comfortable fit, intuitive layout and visual appeal can’t fix: the horrid d-pad. It’s utterly evil that such a thing of beauty can be brought down by such a completely flimsy design flaw. It’s rigid, it’s unresponsive, and it feels like there’s a gap the size of the grand canyon between the plastic and the circuit board.
Microsoft sought to clean that blemish on an otherwise perfect reputation during the holiday 2010 season with the transforming d-pad controller. It promised more precise controls by allowing players to have the standard 8-way “flat” design they were used to, or to raise the d-pad up into a 4-way “plus” position for tighter digital control. It worked. It’s not a perfect fix, but it addresses some of the precision issues players have with the controller. The problem is that there isn’t a lot of choice when it comes to these new controllers. It’s silver or a special edition Halo 4, Modern Warfare 3, Gears of War 3, or Fable 3 controller.
I bought one of the silver transforming d-pad shells on eBay. It was a pull from a working controller, but was apparently never actually in use. I quickly got to work installing it on one of my controllers, which aside from needing to purchase an inexpensive special screwdriver, was incredibly easy. I kept my original black Start and Back buttons, colored A, B, X, and Y buttons, and intalled black thumbsticks to finish it off. After just one night I was hooked. This new d-pad felt amazing. I wanted all my controllers to have it.
So I set to work hunting down YouTube do-it-yourself videos as I do when nearly anything in my house breaks or I want to customize something. I quickly realized that I’d much rather see if there was a professional alternative. I didn’t want to hack up my shell and have nothing to show for it but pieces in the end. I found only one company who provides a professional system for modifying the shells, QuickdrawMods. I contacted them and soon an agreement was made in which I would send my white, black, and red tops (above) in for modification.
