Return to the ’80s with Capcom Arcade Cabinet: Retro Game Collection (big hair optional)
Fresh from Famitsu magazine comes details of an XBLA (and PSN) platform to house many of Capcom’s classic arcade titles. The platform is expected to create a home for purchasable Arcade titles, similar to how Pinball FX 2 is a platform on which to purchase tables as one desires. Producer Kenji Kataoka noted that the actual means by which future titles would be distributed, but one plan suggests games being released as packs.
“I can’t go into details on titles yet,” said Kataoka, “but we’re definitely focusing on the games that came out earlier on in our history. These are completely faithful reproductions, too. You used to have arcade games ported to the NES and such and wind up being completely different titles on that platform, but that’s not the case here. Even if there were bugs in the original, we’ve kept them in there if we felt we needed to in order to retain the original feel of the game.”
Some sites have speculated classic titles such as Gun.Smoke, 1942, Commando and Strider will be making a return in virtual form. The first title confirmed is Black Tiger, which is a Ghosts ‘n Goblins-esque platformer featuring a barbarian. The uninitiated can see gameplay footage of the original game here. Expect additional details when the official announcement hits February 7.
