Rewind Review: Soul Calibur (XBLA)
Soul Calibur was developed by Namco Bandai and retails for 800 MSP. It was released July 2, 2008.
The soul is always burning — burning for more swords and axes clashing, burning for ring outs. Soul Calibur is one of the best fighting games ever released for the Dreamcast and has had many sequels on various consoles. Some still regard the first game being the very best in the series and if you’re one of those, then Xbox Live Arcade is where you’ll be able to find it. But does the soul still burn or has the flame been extinguished?

Choplifter HD soaring its way to XBLA
Fans of the classic helicopter series Choplifter will be getting a brand new HD facelift this Autumn. Choplifter HD brings back the classic gameplay of playing a helicopter pilot rescuing survivors from POW camps and zombie outbreaks in 20 high-flying missions. The original creator, Dan Gorlin has been brought on by developer inXile Entertainment as a design consultant. “He has added valuable touches, including ways to connect the pilot to the rescued hostages in a meaningful way, which have helped us create a really rich Choplifter experience for players.” says inXile chief Brian Fargo. If you look closely past the break, you might see a classic XBLA character needing to be saved that’s quite ‘meaty’.

XBLA’s Most Wanted: The Simpsons Arcade
The Simpsons has been on the air for 486 episodes in 22 seasons and the show shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. But in the classic years of The Simpsons, just before Bart faced Space Mutants on the NES, we got the classic arcade game we called The Simpsons Arcade Game. It was a side-scrolling beat-em ‘up where Mr. Burns and Smithers steal a diamond and when they run into The Simpsons, the diamond falls into Maggie’s mouth leading Smithers and Burns to kidnap Maggie. The Simpsons must rescue Maggie by beating up everyone who stands in their way. With the classic X-Men game on XBLA, surely this could lead to further old Konami arcade games to come there too.
