Boulder Dash XL gives us Retro mode and new screens

Developer Kalypso Media announced today that Boulder Dash XL has just released on Xbox Live Arcade at 800 MSP, coming with refreshed 3D HD look, new game modes, leaderboards, and a set of newly produced caves. Furthremore, Kalypso revealed one of the game modes called “Retro” with several original features, in ode to all the classic gamers.

‘Retro’ mode features:

  • 25 Caves, following the design guidelines of the original game
  • Caves created solely using the game elements featured in the classic
  • All the classic enemies are there, behaving exactly how they did in 1984
  • Glorious 8bit-Soundtrack
  • Original graphics and characters rendered in real-time 3D

They say imitation is the best form of flattery, but is this truly the case when it comes to video games? Many of you know about the Splosion Man rip off MaXplosion for iOS, which Twisted Pixel took in stride and in return had their own fun. Now there is a Super Meat Boy rip off called Tobar which appears on iOS as well. This is in no way, shape or form a coincidence as you can see for yourself; square main character, check, buzz saws everywhere, check, wall jumping and sliding, check. MLB Bobbleheads pitching new DLC *UPDATE*

As many MLB fans know the Home Run Derby was yesterday and the All-Star game was on last night. This is exactly why the folks at Konami Digital have just released the MLB Bobblehead Stars Pack for only 400 MSP. This new DLC will add the full Home Run Derby line up to you roster, as well as bring the new My Bobble game mode, where you take one player through a full season. Backbreaker: Vengeance review (XBLA)

Backbreaker: Vengeance was developed by NaturalMotion Games and published by 505 Games. It was released on June 29, 2011 for 1200 MSP. A copy of the game was provided for review purposes.

Backbreaker: Vengeance is a spin off from last year’s retail release that emphasizes on the mini game aspect. You have three modes to choose from: Tackle Alley, where you run the ball through an obstacle course; Vengeance, where you are the defender trying to stop the runner from scoring; and Supremacy, which pits you against three other ball runners to be the highest scorer. Once you pick your player, it is time to run through these different gauntlets racking up the most points possible by stringing together score pick-ups and special moves like jukes and spins on your run to the end zone.
