Road Redemption bat

The folks at DarkSeas Games are huge fans of the classic Road Rash series, but we haven’t seen a new entry in over a decade. DarkSeas is fixing that. After releasing a trailer showing their current prototype, they turned to Kickstarter to enlist public help for Road Redemption, a spiritual successor that will bring the beloved classic into the 21st century.

That Kickstarter ended on May 12 only $5,000 short of its stretch goal to bring it to Xbox Live Arcade. Luckily, that goal of $178,000 was reached through a secondary fund through Paypal after its finish. DarkSeas still has a lot of work to do, so don’t expect a release before their target of August next year.

Road Redemption enlists you in a motorcycle gang fighting for control of the roads across the American Midwest. DarkSeas promises a significant learning curve true to the classics. High-speed chases throw off your shooting, but with a little practice you will be shoving intruders into oncoming traffic and slicing off their heads with a katana. DarkSeas also plans to incorporate a multiplayer network that escalates online matchmaking into full-on gang warfare between your own factions.
