Xbox One changes coming in April
Major Nelson announced yesterday that the Xbox One’s system update will be made available to all in April. This follows a preview of the system update that was made available to select Xbox Live members last month, giving Microsoft the chance to receive and respond to the feedback that was given by the invited members of the online service. Microsoft also plan to filter new updates and changes to these select members in the meantime until the update is made available to all. These include UI changes that affect notifications and discoverability that may or may not appear in the public update, depending on feedback from the community.
Major Nelson has said that “We value your feedback and want your help shaping the future of Xbox One.”
The first of the features that they plan to roll out will be the changes to game and app saves and updates. A game save progress bar will be available that tells the player the status of their save games. It will now be easier to tell what games have been recently updated and which are going through the process of updating. Next up the “Friends” feature update will mean that the player will receive a notification whenever a friend or a favorite of theirs sign in. In addition to this from the friends list, players will be able to see who out of their friends is currently in multiplayer. A friend’s most popular apps will also be made available to view. Finally, they plan to also update the Kinect voice and motion software and also improve the Game DVR video quality. Microsoft also plans to send out more invitations to preview upcoming changes.
