What we are playing is a weekly column published on Sunday. Select members of the team talk about the games they’ve been playing over the past week and which they’re most looking forward to.

What We Are Playing

Matt Liparota – A bit of a light gaming week for me, as I’ve been busy with the day job and I got sucked into the insanely entertaining timesink that is Showtime’s Homeland – but I did pick up the retail edition of [easyazon-link asin=”B007WQOIGW” locale=”us”]The Walking Dead[/easyazon-link] and have finally started playing what so many consider the best game of the year. I don’t know if I think that’s true just yet, but I can safely say so far that it IS one of the most satisfying gaming experiences I’ve had with a game this year, and I’m only partway through episode two (the Soylent Green moment – you know the one). Going into the holiday week, I’m looking forward to taking more time with Telltale’s wonderfully depraved tale, as well as any new games good ol’ Santa Claus might deliver my way Tuesday.

Scott Baker – I survived (or rather, mopped the floor with) the Apocalypse playing [easyazon-link asin=”B0056WJA30″ locale=”us”]Darksiders 2[/easyazon-link]. I loved the original, and I find this has stronger combat and even more epic bosses, but the first had much more interesting characters and story. I’m saving [easyazon-link asin=”B0050SW8OS” locale=”us”]Uncharted: Golden Abyss[/easyazon-link] on my Vita for my upcoming trip to Mexico.

Nick Santangelo – I finished up [easyazon-link asin=”B003VJNPPE” locale=”us”]The Witcher 2[/easyazon-link] on PC on Sunday, and it was amazing. With that behind me, I went back to Darksiders II, which I put on hold when [easyazon-link asin=”B0050SYK44″ locale=”us”]Borderlands 2[/easyazon-link] came out and hadn’t touched since. I think I’m only about a third of the way through it. So far it’s good, but not as good as the original. Finally, a friend gifted me Ace of Spades on Saturday, and we played a bit of that. It’s not bad, but the maps are way, way too big.

Nathan Bowring –  I picked up Mark of the Ninja on sale this week, and am loving every minute of it. Never played a stealth game this fun. I also got back into Fez to try to get all the anti-cubes. I’ve made some progress, but some of those puzzles are way too tough!

Ryan Thompson – Someone unexpectedly bought me Borderlands 2 just before Christmas, and it is incredible! I’m enjoying playing Zero as a sniper, and am looking forward to having a marathon session of shooting and looting when I return from visiting family this week. Happy holidays, everyone!

Sorry for this late Monday edition of What we are playing – we’re all pretty busy around the holidays! What will you be playing this holiday season?
