Monaco creator feels effort was ‘largely wasted’ on XBLA
The man behind Monaco: What’s Yours Is Mine shared his disappointment over what he feels was a lackluster performance on Xbox Live Arcade. As reported by Joystiq, Pocket Watch Games’ Andy Schatz took to Reddit to field questions from fans and revealed his thoughts on the XBLA version of his game.
“I was very disappointed in Xbox sales,” Schatz revealed. “We put a ton of effort porting the game, and to have that effort be largely wasted was really disappointing.” Schatz references the XBLA launch-day delay as the major contributing factor to the situation. Additionally, he feels a weak demo and the studio’s inability to develop in a real-world environment compounded the problem. “When we were submitting a patch for it, we were blind, since we couldn’t actually test to reproduce the problem on the dev kits,” Schatz wrote, explaining the bug that pushed back the game’s release.
Hopefully Moncaco continues to enjoy its deserved success on PC, which is where Schatz predicted the game’s future would lie when we spoke with him about Xbox Live Arcade’s approaching expiration date. “I’m afraid that once the console cycle shifts, Monaco‘s main home will be on the PC,” he told XBLAFans. “Of course, the previous gen console usually has a strong life for at least a year. Plenty of time for people to get their heist on.”
