If we gave you a bunch of Microsoft Points, then took them away, and you never noticed would you even care? For many of you, that’s the position you are in as you read this article. The tree fell and no one was there to check if it made a sound.

For others, you caught the mysterious, unwarranted increase to your Microsoft Points at some point during the day. Money just left unattended on the sidewalk for the taking. Would you spend it before someone could claim it? Or would you wait for its owner to ask for it to be returned?

There has been a lot of confusion surrounding what seemed to be an influx of Microsoft Points that have since vanished for many users. Early this morning, a number of Xbox Live accounts received Microsoft points in error from Microsoft, a large portion of our staff included. This evening, those points were removed by Microsoft.

When we approached them for comment, Microsoft had this to say:

“We are aware that some Xbox LIVE members may have accidentally received an unexpected deposit of Microsoft Points to their accounts and are working to resolve the issue. We appreciate their patience and apologize for any inconvenience.”

More or less it was a completely uneventful day as things seem to be the same as they were before the day started.
